Castle Island in South Boston was once an island but was connected to the mainland in 1928 by a narrow stretch of land. It seems to be a little bit enchanted, with its 1703 fort and lovely beaches for sunbathing and swimming. I enjoy walking around its perimeter, with its views of the ocean and remnants of building projects. The patina of age on the railings adds to the feeling of lost time, while the lines and geometric forms remind you that the city is not far away.
