Yair Melamed

At my stage, an active physician since 1981 when I graduated from the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel-Aviv University in Israel, I find it is not an easy task to create an artist statement.

I am a physician who struggles to express myself as a fine-art artist while the time available for me to do that is extremely limited. At the same time, given the fact that my income does not depend on art, I have the freedom to do things according to my passion and am not influenced by the likes or dislikes of other people.

I have been an avid photographer since my teens when, at age 13, I started to shoot with a Zorki 4 camera, which was considered a Leica version created in East Germany or the Soviet Union.

In 2000, I moved to digital photography, when I purchased a Canon 10D which I believe was the first digital camera Canon created at that time.

In 2009 I joined the Boston Camera Club. Through once-a-week meetings, where there is a wide range of critique, educational programs, exhibitions, print and digital competitions, along with workshops and self-education, I have made progress to the point where I am now.

My interests are mainly street portraits and landscapes. Fine-art photography is my final goal. I am trying to apply a variety of self-taught techniques and am inspired by viewing a variety of artists’ works. At the same time, I am trying to keep myself as versatile as possible being involved in a wide range of photography genres.
